Low setup
3D Printing
Parts printed layer by layer, with no tooling. A good fit for the first tier of a run and for odd shapes.

3D printing
A printer builds a part layer by layer from a model. There is no mold and no fixture, so a case or a bracket costs about the same at ten units as at a hundred. First tiers of a run often print, and later tiers switch to molding.
| Setup cost | None |
|---|---|
| Best at | Low quantities, complex shapes, enclosures |
| Input | STL or STEP model |
| Common materials | PLA, PETG, nylon, resin |
01
No tooling
Any shape the model describes can be built, in any quantity.
02
Fits the first tier
A small first run prints. The curve moves to a tooled process when the count grows.
03
Proves the fit
A printed case shows that a board fits before anyone pays for a mold.
